Fred Machetanz

Machetanz - The Chief DancesThe dramatic colors of Alaska were the colors of Machetanz’s palette.  Machetanz credited his classic transparent oil technique with capturing “Alaska’s kaleidoscope of color.”

Machetanz pictured the Alaska he first encountered in the village of Unalakleet; it was there that he first established a bond with the land and its people that lasted more than 50 years.  His paintings and stone lithographs have been exhibited around the world, included in numerous permanent collections and published in three books.  His work is exhibited in museums nation wide.

Machetanz received his Masters of Art from Ohio State University, and then pursued further study at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Art Students League, and the American Academy of Art.
